This is defiantly one of the coolest watches ever. This special edition watch from Romain Jerome features the creators homage to the classic space invaders era. With individually machined invaders that are incased under the curved class face, and a ball joint mounting mechanism, this watch is of amazing quality and detail. With no price listed, and other watches from Romain Jerome going for $13000 I don’t think I will be getting one any time soon.
Now if our Canadian money wasn’t cool enough before, the Bank of Canada has released details of the new bank notes. First of all, they are no longer paper. They are made from a single piece of polymer, and embedded with some awesome security features. Its got your standard raised ink patterns, highly detailed complex images, and metallic shiny holograms. But its also got the coolest security feature ever, it has like a secret agent-esque micro image. To see this image you have to locate the clear window with the maple leaf in it, then hold it up to your eye and look through at a point light source. What you will see is a very small icon that shows the bills denomination. This is so awesome, but we could totally do one step better. Our coins should have a small hole in them with some sort of laser engraved lens embedded inside. That way we could shine a laser pointer through it and project images on walls. Now thats very 007.
Now this is Awesome! The new Joe and Rika Mansueto Library at the University of Chicago has a huge underground book storage and automated robotic retrieval system. The underground facility is five stories deep and has a storage capacity of 3.5 million books. The books are stored in metal bins that fit into shelving that extends the entire depth of the facility. These shelves are serviced by 5 automated cranes that are 50 ft in height. These massive cranes can move with great precision and can retrieve any book in approximately 5 min. Another amazing ability of this library is that the storage facility is kept at 15.5°C and 30% relative humidity, this is done for preservation of the books and will allow them to be maintained for much longer than normal. Check out this video by the University of Chicago to see how it all works!
Its been a long time coming but its finally here, the school term is over. Its funny how at the beginning of the term I am so excited to be there but once I get a couple of months that feeling fades (I can’t be the only one). Not to mention they make the end of the term the most annoying, projects, exams, papers, YUK. Well to be honest I loved it but its nice to be free too. Its also slowly getting nice outside which is also a definite plus, and being done school I can again appreciate what a nice day brings. Another nice thing about being free from school is I can finally get back to work! Its nice to be in the office when the sun is shining, windows wide open, Jack Johnson on the speakers, coffee, and working again. Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson always puts me in a good mood, and the obvious, it makes me want banana pancakes. While the acedemic freedom has not set in yet, I imagine it will quite nicely.
